2003 Points Series
NEW for the 2003 season the UCI (pronounced OO-Key) has announced it will sanction a points series for Camano Island, Stanwood, Skagit and Snohomish County area rides. By simply participating in series rides you will be awarded points in various classifications.
The CLIMBERS competition will award points based on the difficulty of the ascent. The leader will be awarded the "Marco Pantani skin head wig."
This will certainly attract big time climbers to the events. Note: The Marco Pantani Skin Head Wig is NOT ANSI approved cycling head ware. It should always be warn underneath an approved helmet!
The SPRINT competition should be hotly contested too. Hot Spot sprints will determine the leader of this competition. The leader will be awarded the "Sean Eadie Sprint Beard" made with life like hair.
Besides the prestige of wearing the beard and the extra care required while eating powerbars, you'll no doubt have to fight off hordes of ZZ Top fans that mistake you for a band member.
The Viagra Hard Man competition will be awarded to the rider who shows up for the most bad weather rides. Blue Tinted Sunglasses will be awarded to distinguish the leader in the competition.
The Lantern Rouge competition will reward the rider who manages to accumulate the least amount of points during the competition. So if you climb like a brick, sprint like a daisy and never ride in the rain, this competition is for you! The leader will be awarded a TV remote to distinguish the leader in this competition as well as aid in his training.The Johnson & Johnson Band-Aid -Tyler Hamilton award for crashing will be awarded to anyone unlucky enough to have an unscheduled dismount. Witnesses will be asked to rate the fall on a scale of 1-10. The leader of this competition will be awarded a gauze roller bandage to use as bar tape.
